Biography:

Tomislav Vignjević graduated at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts, Department of Art History in 1988 and received his M.A. at the same Faculty in 1994. He obtained his PhD in 2000 at the Institutum studiorum humanitatis- Faculty for Huamnistic Studies in Ljubljana, Slovenia with the dissertarion »Triplex status mundi«.

Tomislav Vignjević is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Historical Studies of the Science and Research Centre Koper, from the year 2004.
From 1992 to 2000 he was a Curator at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana. From 2004 he acted as an Assistant Professor and from 2011 until 2017 as an Associate Professsor at the Faculty of the Humanities at the University of Pimorska in Koper, Slovenia. Since 2012 he is also collaborating with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Tomislav Vignjević published four scientific monographs and numerous scientific articles. His scientific bibliography is more than 400 units strong.

The topic of his research is the art of the late Gothic and the Reanissance, a well as Modern art. Methodologicaly his interest is focused on the iconological topics of the art of this periods. His research is also dedicated to the questions of political iconography and to the problems of the art in social context. 

He was a researcher at several projcts, financed by ARRS (Slovenian Research Agency). Currently he is an associate at the project Cultural and Historical Aspects of Ageing (ZRS Koper, since 2020) and National Self-Assertion Versus Transnational Scholarship (UL FF, since 2018).

He was also a memeber of the research team at several other projects, financed by Slovenian Resears Agency and an associate of the two Interreg projects.

He is a memeber of SUZD (Slovenian Art Historical Association) and the president of the Slovenian Section of AICA.
