Biography:

Maja Zadel is a research associate, PhD, at the Institute for Social Studies at the Science and Research Centre Koper. Her research and study focus is the study of nationalism, ethnic studies and the national question in general, and transculturation in particular, with special attention to the media. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, with the thesis “Documentary film and interpretation of history: War for Slovenian Independence”. After cooperating as a student cooperation with the Science and Research Centre Koper, she was employed in January 2011; first at the Institute for Linguistic Studies, and in April also at the former Institute for Mediterranean Humanities and Social Studies. As a young researcher in the field of ethnic studies, she received a scholarship in November 2011 under the supervision of dr. Mateja Sedmak. Her doctoral research focused on nationalism, ethnicity and the role of media in historical perspective, including the study of transcultural and culturally hybrid identities. In 2016 she defended her doctoral thesis “The role of Italian media content in the formation of transcultural identities in the area of Slovenian Istria" at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Humanities. As a research assistant at the Institute for Social Studies of the Science and Research Centre Koper, she is mainly engaged in the study of ethnicity and nationalism, transculturation, identities, migration, etc.

Maja Zadel is the head of the Public Opinion Research Centre.

In 2013 she was a visiting researcher at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
